5 is a big birthday, or at least at our house it will be. So mommy and daddy took Elan to the theater for the first time ever. We saw Cars 2 which was a good movie. Elan LOVED it, and he sat on the edge of his seat and squealed. Afterwards we went to IHOP for a pancake (his dinner choice). After plenty of sugar, he even said his belly hurt.

Elan the magician--An illusionist came to our church to perform, and he needed a helper. He asked Elan to come to the stage which was the thrill of the year for a 5 year old boy! Elan did a great job, even if he did tell the crowd that his "job" was to help his mom with laundry. REALLY?

First day of school--on August 15th Elan went to his first day of Kinderkids at Rome First Methodist. He loves school!

Maryland and bike riding
We went to Maryland to visit family on August 12th. Elan learned to ride a bike that day when Lito brought a bike they had. I have never seen a kid hop on a two wheeler without training wheels and drive across the yard. Oh there were a few spills, but not as many as I expected. We enjoyed Rocks State Park where Elan climbed to the king and queen seat to pose for a picture. It was fun to see Pappy again!

Children's Discovery Museum
As a last fun day before school started, we headed to Chattanooga to the Children's Discovery Museum. It had been over 2 years since we last visited, and the kids really enjoyed this time even more now that they are older. They had a special Bob the Builder exhibit which was fun, and Elan loved the piano that could play on its own.

CARS party at the beach
Noni and Lito and Tia Kate made a fun birthday party for Elan to celebrate (again!). He received a Cars comforter that lights up and a new Cars shower curtain. He enjoyed making Mater and Lightning McQueen cupcakes. What an awesome time!

Fun at Dauphin Island
Our beach trip this year was July 30-August 6th, and we had a very good time. Elan LOVED the water this year, and he didn't mind building monster holes or getting buried in the sand either. It was a lot of fun to spend time with family, though we missed Aunt Erika, Uncle Jeff, and newest cousin Jakob.

Elan turned 5 July 28th, and we had a party at home for him that day. This year that just didn't seem like enough to him since he really wanted to have friends over. We had already gone to the movies (see another blog post) and had plans for a party at the beach (see another post), so how can a kid complain? I made him a chocolate cake with a dirt bike rider, and he was very excited about that. Dee came for the festivities, along with his babysitters Hailey and Ashtin.
